Highlights:

  • Today we had buddies. We did an outdoor scavenger hunt. - Lavin
  • We had our Grade 3 Farewell and BBQ. - Dane
  • Today all of the Grade 3s sang a song at the farewell called "We will Rock it!" - Tommy
  • Today we each got a Grade 3 Photo and we got to walk around and sign each other's. - Maycee
  • Today we are bringing home a lot of our stuff! - Shyanne
  • We read Ivan! We are so close to finishing the whole book. - Kenan
Reminder:
  • Tomorrow is the Talent Show! Please bring what you need in order to present.
  • It is the last day of school tomorrow. Report Cards will be going home.

End of the Year Reminders and Phys. Ed message

Hi Parents,

Please see updated year end reminders below:


  • All Royal Oak School library books need to be returned by Friday, June 15.
    • Grade 3 Farewell (10:30 a.m) and school BBQ (11:20 a.m) on Tuesday, June 26 - more information coming soon.
    • Families that will be away on the last day of school, please provide a 9x12 self-addressed stamped envelope to the school prior to being away. Your child's report card will then arrive at your house this summer. 
    • The last day of school is Wednesday, June 27 - Both of our classes will be having a Talent Show! Students can sing a song, do a dance, tell a joke, play an instrument...whatever talent they want to showcase! The sign up will be available on Thursday where students can sign up for a 3-5 minute time slot. 



    A message from our Physical Education Specialist:
    Students have been working very hard this week to master the obstacle courses in Mission Impossible. On Thursday and Friday we will be dimming the lights in the gym to add excitement and more of a challenge. Students will be allowed to use a flashlight or headlamp if they would like to. If you choose to bring in a light please ensure that it is clearly labelled with their name.

    Farewell and BBQ


    Dear Parents and Guardians, 

    Please join us for our grade 3 Farewell and BBQ on Tuesday, June 26. Parents and siblings are invited to a presentation in the gym starting at 10:30 a.m. The BBQ will follow immediately after at 11:20 (for grade 3 students). If you wish to order a BBQ lunch, please do so before Tuesday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m.

    Year End Reminders - Updated

    Hi Parents, 

    Here are some year end reminders:

    • Last book truck is on Wednesday, June 13 for book return only.  Remember these books can also be returned to any Calgary Public Library.
    • Studio Bell Music Center field trip, June 13. Please ensure that your child eats a substantial breakfast before coming to school, and has a solid healthy lunch, as we will not have time for snacks before or after lunch time.

    Highlights


    • In Phys. Ed we did javelin and shotput.
    • In Buddies (Mrs.C) we read a story "Hank finds an Egg" and we had to retell the story using loose parts.
    • We wrote a letter to our grade 4 teachers
    • Today in math we learned about data analysis and graphing.
    • Today in Mrs. C's class we looked at our article from last week and talked about critically thinking about what we read and see. What question do we ask ourselves when we look at an image?
    • Today was "Bike to School Day."


    Reminders:
    1. Thursday is our field trip to Mary Poppins. We are leaving at 9:15 a.m. Please be at school at 9:00 a.m on the South Side of the parking lot so students can start loading onto the bus.

    • Today we visited rock stations. We tested the rocks and tried to identify what type of rock or mineral it was. - Lindsey
    • In Math, we did subtraction review and mental math. - Piya
    • In Phys Ed, we did assessments or we played Gaga ball. - Jai
    • In writing, we wrote our rock poems and printed them out. Ask me to show you my poem on Google Docs! - Jenny
    • In Literacy in Mrs. Craig's class we wrote stories and did free reading. - Gwen
    • In Literacy in Mrs. Sticksl's class we did the Daily 5. - Kenan

    Volunteers - Field Trip

    Hello Parents, 

    Mrs. Sticksl and Mrs. Craig's classes are going to Studio Bell on June 13 from 10:00-2:00 pm. The students are very excited to attend! Some of our day will involve a gallery activity where we will be divided into smaller groups, requiring five volunteers per class. We are currently looking for more volunteers for this field trip. If you have already spoken with Mrs. Craig and have been confirmed, thank you so much! If you are interested, please email Mrs. Craig at chacraig@cbe.ab.ca. or Mrs. Sticksl at costicksl@cbe.ab.ca

    Please note that our buses are at capacity, therefore parents are required to drive. We will provide maps and parking options closer to the date. Parents also have the option of carpooling together. :)

    Highlights:

    • Today in Phys Ed we did cup stacking in the Kindergarten class! - Noah
    • In Science, we testing the hardness, weight and colour of our rocks. - Lindsey
    • In Music, we played the xylophones. - Maycee
    • In Circle Meeting in Mrs. Craig's class we talked about how we showed the Circle of Courage Kindness and in the second round we said "Thank You's" - Jenny
    • In Inquiry, we got to test our rocks. We noticed: 
      • If the rocks are a similar size, it does not mean they are the same weight. - Jai
      • The reason why rocks might not be the same weight even if they are the same size might be because of what they are made of. - Chloe
      • I noticed one of my rocks was really hard because it could not be scratched by a steel file! - Marley
      • The largest rock had some parts that were hard and other parts that were soft. - Gwen

    Highlights:

    • Today in Phys Ed. we did toilet tag and Simon Says, and "Red Light, Green light" - Hassan
    • We did Scratch Junior coding.- Nandi
    • In Inquiry, we watched our iMovies and shared ideas, and wrote a reflection. - Eliana
    • Mrs. Craig's class went to the Rocks and Minerals stations. There is a station about Soil, The Rock Cycle, Researching Stations, Rock Testing and more! - Gwen
    • In Literacy, we did Daily 5. We could do Listen to Reading. - Kenan 
    • We did Self Reflection about what we did well on for our Inquiry. - Jai 
    • In Math, we played games including "PIGS, Digit Place and Race to the Flat" - Lindsey 
    • Today was fun lunch! - Jeanny 
    • Mrs. Craig's class played a Improv game. In the game, we lined up in 2 lines and the 2 people in front had to ask questions about the topic. - Leena 


    Reminders:
    Tomorrow is Sports Day at Royal Oak School. This year our theme is CANADA! Please wear your CANADA gear, Red and White or Royal Oak Blue

    Students are asked to come prepared for the weather. Bring your hat, sunscreen, water bottle, proper footwear (no flip flops) and a light jacket. We're looking forward to a great afternoon filled with super fun activities and events!

    Transportation Pre-Registration


    2018-19 Transportation Pre-registration

    The transportation pre-registration period will begin on Tuesday, May 22 (today) and close on Monday, June 11. Transportation pre-registrations can be completed using My CBE Account.

    To be included in the yellow school bus route planning for September, parents must pre-register by June 11. Any registrations received after that date will not be considered until route changes are done after Thanksgiving. The more registrations we receive by the deadline, the more efficient route planning will be for September.

    Stampede Breakfast Friday Morning :)


    Reminder that tomorrow (May 25) is the Royal Oak School Stampede Breakfast. Rain or shine, bring your family for some free pancakes and sausage! Pancakes will be served from 7:30am-8:30am and the event will run till 9:00am. Oh and don't forget to wear your Western attire. See ya'll there!

    • In Inquiry we started to selecting charities and voting for what our Celebration of Learning Market funds will go to. Some of the options are: Free the Children, UNICEF, Right to Play, JumpStart and Red Cross. - Dane
    • Today in buddies we used loose parts to create patterns and structures. - Bareera
    • In Inquiry, we were finishing our iMovies! We are almost done. - Naumika
    • In Math, we did our Comparing Masses. We were looking to see how many Alberta animals weigh the same as famous people! - Piya
    • Today in Physical Education, we played soccer. In soccer, we were passing. Then we played two vs. two or three vs. three. - Kenan
    • This morning we had Literacy. In Literacy, we did two rounds of Daily 5. - Aishwarya 
    • In Math, we calculated how many tickets we want to buy for our Celebration of Learning market. - Maycee

    Reminders:
    • Celebration of Learning is this Thursday from 6 - 7 pm. Doors will open at 5:45 pm for families to begin buying tickets and for students to get ready to perform. 
    • Field forms for Mary Poppins are due. You can pay online, by cheque or with cash. Mary Poppins is on June 7th.
    • Stampede Breakfast is May 25th! See you there in your cowboy gear!

    Hi Parents!

    Thank you to all the parents that have been coming lately to help in the classroom and on field trips. It is very much appreciated! On Wednesday and Thursday all the grade three students will be creating market item for our Celebration of Learning coming up in 3 weeks. Students will be making everything from perogies to Ukrainian dolls.

    • Today we had our first day of Alien Inline for both classes. - Dane and Tommy 
    • In Art we continued to work on our Peruvian Textiles. - Carter 
    • In Math we did "Comparing Masses". We compared the mass of: rice, tiles, wood chips, pennies, tea bags and more. - Eliana 
    • In Inquiry we were writing our paragraphs about our 4 countries. - Naumika 
    • Today in Inquiry, we are almost finished our stories. - Jenny 
    • In Literacy we wrote a Reading Reflection.  Ask me what my favourite reading strategy is. - Kenan
