Highlights:

  • Today in Phys Ed. we were practicing for Jump Rope for Heart tomorrow! - Lindsey 
  • In Literacy, we were summarizing our stories by using loose parts. We were challenged to write the "gist" of our story in 20 words or less. - Jake
  •    
  • In Inquiry we were writing our stories about the 4 countries. - Kenan
  • In buddies, Mrs. Craig's class and Mrs. Cook's class did Lego challenges. - Lindsay
  • In Mrs. Sticksl's class for buddies we did STEM centers: magnetic shapes and Scratch Jr. -Piya
Reminders:
  • Jump Rope for Heart is tomorrow afternoon from 1:30 - 2:30 pm. 
  • Please wear RED tomorrow to help promote Heart Healthy activities. 
  • Fundraising forms for Jump Rope for Heart are due tomorrow
  • Please bring in a jump rope from home if you can!
  • There are THREE forms going home in your blue folders. They are: Alien Inline information sheet, schedule and permission form.

Highlights:

  • Today in math we used geoboards on the iPads to solve perimeter problems.
  • Mrs. Craig's class played Wizards, Giants, and Goblins
  • Mrs. Sticksl's class played Alien, Tiger, Cow 
  • We are working on our Peruvian Textile Art
  • In Literacy we are learning about the strategy of summarizing. We went and collected loose parts (rocks, twigs, and pinecones)
  • In Phys. Ed we played different types of jumping games

Highlights:

  • Today in art we worked on our Inca textiles. - Jake
  • In Inquiry, we were using our research to create our story plans. We were planning our stories that we will write about a child from one of the four countries. - Lindsay
  • Today in Literacy we wrote Book Recommendations. - Noah 
  • Today at recess we could use hula hoops or jump ropes. - Leena
  • Mrs. Sticksl's class went to the gym at lunch to play soccer with students from W.D. Pratt. - Liam
  • In Literacy, we worked on questioning. - Nandi
  • In Math, we learned about polygons. - Jenny 
  • In Math, we were using robots to make them travel in the shape of a polygon. - Marley 
  • A polygon shapes need to be:
    • closed 
    • angles, sides and vertices
    • 2D shapes
    • No curves!

Highlights:

  • In robotics we were learning about the ultra sonic sensor. Lindsay
  • In buddies we listened to the little buddies presentation and next week we will do a lego challenge. Nandi
  • Today in buddies we did STEM again, we first acted as parents and our buddies showed us their communities. Liam
  • In math, we did our measurement pre-assessment. We haven't learned anything yet! It was confusing. We needed to use a ruler and think about perimeter. Piya
  • Today in Phys. Ed we were trying to hit the birdie against the wall and then Ms. Hennick told us to get into partners and we rallied back and forth. Ella
  • Today in Social Studies and Inquiry we did research on the 4 countries. We needed to write details on our research page. Dane
  • Today in Literacy we worked on the strategy of questioning. Jenny

Hello ROS students, parents and guardians!
Our Heart and Stroke Foundation Jump Rope For Heart Fundraiser is well on its way. Our kick off assembly last week got students excited to participate. Students are encouraged to continue collecting pledges until Wednesday, April 25th when we will have our Jump Rope for Heart Day event. The Jump Event will run from 1:30-2:30 on the 25th, our entire school will converge in the courtyard to skip, be active and have fun. Students are encouraged to bring their own skipping ropes if they have one to participate in this school wide event. Thank you for your continued support!!

  • Today we had Phys Ed. In Phys Ed. we started doing 'racket' sports. - Carter
  • Today in Art were doing the math part of the project. We are going to create Inca textiles. - Kenan
  • We had Literacy. In Literacy, we used our own book to ask questions. - Jeanny
  • Today we did robotics. We had to program our robots to move in the path of different shapes. - Marley 
  • In writing, we were going on the computers to comment on our Oral Storytelling on IRIS. - Lindsay 
  • In Literacy we had a chance to practice inferring, questioning and visualizing. We could pick from the Daily 5. - Dane
  • In Math, we finished our Fraction Assessment. - Leena

Inca Textiles

Inca Textiles

Students today explored the concept of perimeter. The perimeter is the distance around an object. 

Students practiced finding the perimeter of regular shapes. Then, students looked at Inca textiles from Peru and found irregular shapes. They analyzed Inca textiles to find the perimeter of the patterns & designs.

    • Natural disasters are floods. It's rare to get tsunamis and tornados
    • They celebrate Ramadan and Eid
    • People in Tunisia speak Arabic and French

  • Ukraine
    • They have 32 characters in their alphabet
    • Wheat, sunflower seeds, sugar beets, and coal are the natural resources
    • Borcht is a beet soup
    • Animals in Ukraine are wildcats, elk, grey wolf, and foxes
    • Two languages are Russian and Ukrainian

  • Peru
    • There are pink dolphins in the Amazon river
    • There are also sloths, alpacas, llamas, and hairless dogs, and clown tree frog
    • They have masks
    • They speak Spanish

  • India
    • Their natural disasters are tsunamis, famine, floods, droughts, and earthquakes
    • There are more than 20 celebrations and traditions like: Holi, Diwali, sometimes Christmas
    • They speak Hindi, English, and Punjabi

Highlights

  • Today we had an assembly for Jump Rope for Heart. There is a website for the fundraising. We learned a little bit about the Heart and Stroke foundation. 
  • In Social Studies we got together in our research groups and started to learn about our countries. 
  • Today in Phys. Ed we did some skipping, and hula-hooping. 
  • We played a fraction game. Who has 1/3? I have 1/3...who has 1/10? It was a fun game. 
  • We learned a new strategy for reading called "Questioning". We played 20 questions. 
  • In Mrs. Craig's class we finished our Plickers Reading strategy assessment. 
  • We also had buddies today!

  • Jump Rope for Heart envelopes have been sent home today. Please register online!


  • To show support to those affected by the tragedy in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, students are invited to wear a jersey or the color green this Thursday, April 12.

Highlights:

  • Today Mrs. Craig's class started working with robotics. Leena
  • Today in Phys.Ed we did skipping and hula hooping. We talked about Jump Rope for heart. Tomorrow we have an assembly. Katerina
  • Today in Social Studies we were reading about all of the 4 countries. Then we picked our top 2 choices for what we want to research. Jake
  • Mrs. Sticksl's class did math - we did fraction strips. 
  • Today we got a green bin and we started composting! Dane
  • If we were finished our recording of our oral stories, we were working on our self-assessment using the rubric. It will be on IRIS soon! Lindsay
  • Mrs. Craig's class looked at different reading strategies before reading. Jenny
  • We also talked about needs vs. wants in Social Studies and had quite a debate. Jai
