Highlights:

  • Today in math we learned about fractions! One half of a whole, and a quarter and one third...these are some of the things we learned about. Joshua

  • Today in buddies we made art with circles. Jake
  • Today we got to pick our top 3 choices for circle Friday clubs. And the teachers will put all the students in their groups. It will last 6 weeks. It starts after Spring Break. Haaris
  • Ask me which are my top 3 club choices. 
  • We worked on our stories today. We added "show, not tell." Dennis
  • Ask me how I can "show, not tell" any emotion. 
  • Today we had phys.ed in our class because the gym was being used. We played a game called "Double Double". We also did some dance moves on Go Noodle. Jenny
  • We also read a little bit of One and Only Ivan. Dane

  • In literacy we had a lesson about inferring. It is when there is a picture, you take clues from the picture to find out what it is about. You can also use that strategy with fiction or non-fiction. Hassan and Carter

  • Student Led Conferences are next week. Please log into your CBE account and select your time slot. 
  • Blue form is coming home. Please fill out with your child, and return by Monday, March 19th at the latest. 
  • Skating has been cancelled due to the warm weather.

Expert Request

We are seeking volunteers in the month of April, who have experience in traditional dance from Peru, Ukraine, Tunisia or India to teach a small group of students a simple routine.
If you have expertise and are willing to dedicate your time, please email your child’s teacher.

  • In Buddies we did mistake art! Leena
  • Today we did writing. We learned how to hook our readers in with our first sentence. Then we went and edited our own work. And then when our teacher or peer checked it, they would want to read more. Dane
  • In literacy we got to add a new station. Our fifth station "Into the book/listen to reading."Liam
  • In gym we did bouldering. This time we used 2 panels . Haaris
  • Today in math we finished our division problem solving sheets. Jenny

  • Please ensure all blue skating forms have been returned. If the weather continues to warm up, there is a chance skating will be cancelled. We will make the decision on Monday. Please stay tuned.

  • Today we did writing. Most of us are on our 3rd or 4th paragraph! - Kenyon
  • In Social Studies, we were put in a group to research a region. We are writing our own paragraphs about it. - Aaron
  • In Phys. Ed we did rock climbing and we learned how to fall safely. - Hassan
  • In Math, we did division. We learned about the new strategies Repeated Subtraction and Array. - Piya
  • In Music, we went into groups and made "advice a Grandma would give" and made a song with actions. - Leena

ROS School Skating! March 14-16th

Hello Royal Oak School Parents and Guardians! Your son and/or daughter will be bringing home a letter soon telling you about our Skating Activity that will take place March 14, 15 and 16th. We are looking for several volunteers to help with tying skates, assisting on the ice, walking with classes from the school to the outdoor rink and helping with the skate shack. We are very fortunate to have booked the KidSport skate shack and we will need a few volunteers organizing and managing the skates and helmets. Highlights:

  • In Social Studies we started looking at the text book. We started reading about the 4 countries and their regions. Katerina
  • In gym we started bouldering. That is when you go on the rock climbing wall, and you don't have a harness or a helmet. You don't above the red line. We also learned how to fall safely. The other people that weren't on the climbing wall were in fitness centers. Adam, Jenny, Dennis, Chloe
  • In math we are doing division and learning about fact families, number line, repeated subtraction, arrays, and putting your answer in a sentence. Jai, Jeanny
  • Today we were doing writing. We were doing our paragraphs and looking at the criteria. Most of us are finished our second paragraph. Kenan
  • In literacy today we practiced using the visualizing strategy. We had a partner and when the partner was reading, we had to draw a picture in our notebook. We also had to write down the book details. Dennis, Zakhar

Highlights:

  • Today we did social studies. We were using Google Earth to look at our 4 different countries. We looked at the regions. Jafar and Katerina
  • In Mrs. Craig's class, we had buddies. We played a math game called snap. Tommy
  • Today we continued writing our legends about the Weaselhead and using our criteria. Hassan
  • In Mrs. Sticksl's class in buddies we shared stuff we had on IRIS and our buddies gave us cards. Zane and Lindsey
  • We learned a new strategy for literacy called visualizing. This is when you read a book, you make a picture in your mind. Kenyon
  • We had math. We practiced stategies for division. Like using a number line. Carter
  • We read the One and Only Ivan. Maycee
  • In gym we had centers. We did yoga, leg raises, push-ups, and step-ups. Jenny
